They are scheduled to be arraigned in court September 10.

Alaska State Trooper Sgt. Joseph Miller , 49, and Trooper Jason Woodruff , 42, were identified as the two officers being charged with one count of fourth-degree assault in the wrongful arrest of 38-year-old Ben Tikka.FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Two Alaska State Troopers are charged with misdemeanor assault following a violent interaction with a man in Kenai .

According to the release from the Department of Public Safety , when Tikka continued to defy orders outside the vehicle, Miller used his boot to push Tikka’s head into the ground, which was covered in broken glass. A taser was also allegedly used multiple times while handcuffing Tikka. A K-9 was ordered to bite him, and the release said these orders continued after he appeared to begin complying.

In a press conference on Thursday, DPS Commissioner James Cockrell said AST holds itself to a high standard of conduct, as well as accountability. According to Cockrell, both troopers are still employed by the state, and are currently on administrative leave. It is unclear whether that is paid leave.
