The social media world has a lot to say about the news that President Donald Trump has been diagnosed with COVID-19.
They knew yesterday and Trump still went to New Jersey for a fundraiser today. Let that sink in.Many people are wondering if this entire diagnosis is a political stunt, given how close we are to Election Day and how the validity of virtually any and all news from the White House is always questioned.
Others are pointing out that Trump contracting the virus doesn’t make sense from a political standpoint, given that his illness isn’t going to sway any votes at this point.— Akilah Hughes The "he's lying so he can miraculously recover and downplay the seriousness of the virus" take would make more sense if he hadn't already downplayed COVID to catastrophic effect. This isn't changing anyone's mind at this point.trump faking covid only makes sense to people who don’t realize that this man LIVES for those goddamn klan rallies of his and now he can’t even do them for like the next 3 weeks.Some prominent figures in media have engaged in “prayers for a speedy recovery” posturing, and many Twitter users aren’t having it. This “God bless the president” tweet from Rachel Maddow did not go over well. God bless the president and the first lady. If you pray, please pray for their speedy and complete recovery — and for everyone infected, everywhere.We must get its spread under control. Enough.This sort of traditional political “civility” will be weaponized against us by these far-right fascists. I don’t want anybody to die or be in pain, but there’s no reason to spend your energy sending positive vibes to the culprits when we have the true victims to worry about.Uh. No. Sorry Rachel. When u feel he’s responsible for a family member’s death to Covid like I do, u do not wish him well.That man endangered lives at his rallies and flagrantly told people wearing masks is dumb and media sycophants can’t wait to hop on Twitter to tweet “get well soon!” Not because they mean it, but cuz they love bullshit fake decorum.Big name media figures and pundits asking God to bless the president is a revolting thing to watch.Other offers of sympathy and get well wishes came from, predictably, Vice President Mike Pence and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who also contracted the virus earlier this year.
