Twitter owner Elon Musk shared this supposed CNN segment about free speech on the platform. But the image is fabricated -- it originated on a satirical website

In the original broadcast, which AFP found using reverse image searches and the Internet Archive, Lemon can be seen wearing the same white shirt, dark tie and gray jacket.

The 2020 segment never mentioned Musk, who made his bid to buy Twitter in April 2022. Instead, the chyrons under Lemon focused on former US president Donald Trump's first impeachment and tributes honoring the death of professional basketball player Kobe Bryant. Musk's amplification of a fake chyron comes despite his own criticism of parody content that is not clearly labeled. After changes he ushered in led to"Going forward, accounts engaged in parody must include 'parody' in their name, not just in bio," heAFP attempted to contact Musk through press contacts for Twitter and his companies Tesla and SpaceX, but no response was forthcoming.
