The Twitch layoffs are part of a second round of layoffs at Amazon within the past six months, affecting a total of 27,000 people.

“As a company focused on building community together, this decision was incredibly difficult and one we did not make without considerable thought,” said Dan Clancy, the company’s just-minted CEO, inLast Thursday, co-founder and CEO Emmett Shear announced he would be stepping down to spend more time with his family — a stunning move considering that Shear has served as the sole chief executive for the duration of Twitch’s run. Clancy, the current CEO, was Twitch’s president.
Shear described raising Twitch as a child of his own, and explained in his note that Twitch has officially come of age. “Twitch often feels to me like a child I’ve been raising as well,”
