Courtesy of Jonathan JuravichTWINSBURG, Ohio – A Twinsburg City Schools educator has been awarded the 2025 Ohio Teacher of the Year honor by Ohio’s State Board of Education.
Pinckney, 35, was one of four finalists in the running for the award. The finalists were selected from the 11 State Board District Teachers of the Year, according to the State Board. A 13-member committee of educators chose the finalists based on written applications. “Usually, that will look like showing up and being excited about what we are teaching, loving our students as we do so well, and keeping ourselves up to date on best practices, but sometimes it will look like taking action against antiquated systems and conditions that do not serve ourselves and students best. Ultimately, I am looking forward to using this opportunity as Ohio Teacher of the Year to be a voice for us.
In Pinckney’s role as an educator, she seeks opportunities to challenge herself, she said. She created a senior-level course on African American Literature, addressing the need for representation by students and members of the community.
