Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart slow dancing in Twilight.
One of the lowest-grossing weekends at the box office this year would've delivered a worse total had it not been for a host of re-releases. While the holdover title Regretting You narrowly edged out Black Phone 2 to claim the box office crown this weekend, films such as Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere and One Battle After Another fell further down the rankings.
Total business this weekend stood at around $53 million, which was just slightly better than the $52 million haul that one weekend in March did earlier this year, when Novocaine topped the charts. However, RRR director S.S. Rajamouli's Baahubali: The Epic joined hands with Robert Zemeckis' Back to the Future and Netflix's recent KPop Demon Hunters to deliver re-release energy at the box office this weekend. Also among the prime attractions this weekend was the re-release of all five installments of The Twilight Saga, in celebration of the source book series' 20th anniversary. The first movie, Twilight, was released in 2008 to massive box office success. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke, it grossed over $400 million globally, and around $1.5 million during this re-release. The second installment, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, was released a year later. Directed by Chris Weitz, the movie made more than $700 million globally, and nearly $600,000 during this re-release. Director David Slade's The Twilight Saga: Eclipse was released in 2010, grossing nearly $700 million worldwide, and around $300,000 during this re-release. The Twilight Movies Have Struggled Critically The final book in the series was separated into two movies — The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, which grossed more than $700 million and more than $800 million worldwide, respectively. The franchise made stars out of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, but struggled with the critics for the entire duration of their run. The saga's top-rated movie on aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes remains Breaking Dawn - Part 2 while the lowest-rated is Breaking Dawn - Part 1 . Both movies were directed by Bill Condon, and they grossed a combined total of over $1 million during this re-release. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
