TV ratings: VPdebate rises vs. 2016 in early numbers
Wednesday's vice presidential debate drew bigger initial TV ratings than its counterpart in 2016, and that's likely to carry through to the final numbers.
Fast national ratings for the big four broadcast networks show the debate drawing 22.57 million viewers, about 6 percent ahead of the comparable figure from four years ago . While the broadcast numbers in 2016 didn't change much after adjustments for the live broadcast, adding only about half a million people, Wednesday's figures are likely to grow more thanks to Nielsen's addition of out of home viewing to its national sample.
