Evan Felker led the Turnpike Troubadours to a triumpant RodeoHouston return for a crowd...
Saturday's show, then, was the pinnacle of the last several months. It started slowly, a low rumbling of applause greeting"Every Girl." Red and white rugs were laid out onstage. But once the band kicked in, the crowd got progressively louder, creating a palpable sense of back-and-forth energy.
Felker is by no means a flashy frontman, but he's a storyteller and has a way of grounding the songs and the performance, even amid 70,000-plus people. His lyrics are smart and thoughtful, emotional and honest. It's no small feat to retain the impact of a song like"A Tornado Warning" — "" — but it made for a beautiful moment.
