The province says it’s open to start a conversation about how seniors can live in their homes longer.
His relatives were adamant that they didn’t want to go into a retirement home, but it seemed that was the only choice given to them.
While Taherian and Basi want to make it easier for seniors to live longer in their homes, they say the system isn’t set up to ensure that happens. “COVID brought up a lot of shortcomings of the care facilities around the world,” said Taherian, a former executive director with a retirement home management company. “It’s not just that there were undesirable living conditions, but even the staff working there were so unhappy.”
“Over time, a lot of that deteriorated,” Schick said. “It gradually got so that those types of things were offered in fewer and fewer of the former health regions. And by the time that the Saskatchewan Health Authority was formed, there were only about two regions that offered any of that, that I know of.”Article content
