Turkish officials to largely end search for victims from earthquake as death toll tops 46K

Turkish officials said search and rescue operations will largely end Sunday night. The announcement came as the death toll topped 46,000.

“We heard shouts when we were digging today an hour ago. When we find people who are alive, we are always happy,” rescuer Atay Osmanov Turkish officials have vowed to investigate those responsible for the collapse of buildings and have ordered the detention of more than 100 suspects, including developers.

Rescuers continue to be frustrated by difficulties in reaching the areas in Syria hard-hit by the quake.
