A collapsed building is a"hostile, horrific" place to be trapped, retired firefighter Rob Davis says.
"You're literally driving down roads and buildings have just been ripped apart. You see the impact that has on the survivors who are in complete shock, scared, don't know what to do next."The number of people who have died in Turkey and Syria has risen again.This comes after the Turkish health minister confirmed 5,434 people have died in the country.
But the US and European nations have said that sanctions aim to pressure the Syrian government into a political process that could end the conflict. These have largely been providing aid to Turkey, though the United Nations had been sending support to Syria throughout today. UN spokesperson Madevi Sun-Suona said some roads that would be used to transport the much-needed assistance are"broken" or"inaccessible".
"I can only begin to imagine the scale of suffering and loss as a result of these dreadful tragedies and I particularly wanted to convey our deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to the families of all those who have lost their loved ones," he said.
