The number of people killed in Syria and Turkey has now surpassed 6,300, the authorities have confirmed. In Syria, two figures have been released - one for government-controlled areas and another for opposition-held regions.

Sky News has located the video to the town of Elbistan in Kahramanmaras province, around three hours from the epicentre of yesterday's earthquake. Within seconds, three buildings are reduced to a pile of rubble and a cloud of debris covers the street. By Sky News international affairs editor Dominic Waghorn

Opposition parties and some residents have already accused the government of acting too slowly after the earthquake. Failure to enforce quake-proof building codes through corruption is a frequent complaint after earthquakes in Turkey. Those claims could damage Erdogan's prospects in the vote. So far none of that has done much to dent his chances of re-election with the opposition weak, disunited and disorganised. If the earthquake's economic impact is felt early enough and aid effort is regarded as inadequate, that may drag down the president’s popularity in the crucial few months before the vote.Warning: Distressing video below The girl was found buried more than 10 hours after the earthquake struck with her umbilical cord still connected to her mother, who did not survive.

"Basically my childhood memories are gone right now, the town doesn't remain any more, and we have to rebuild it." Another woman sobbed as she revealed she'd heard her brother calling out for help. She said he was calling out his name and begging for help. She said she tried calling Turkey's emergency co-ordination group,"but no one came".Half of 'critical 72 hours' to find survivors has gone

A malnourished population in northern Syria already facing multiple humanitarian crises will be the worst affected, according to the charity's James Denselow.
