National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan issued a statement late Sunday night, saying the U.S."is profoundly concerned by the reports of today’s destructive earthquake in Turkiye and Syria" and will continue to closely monitor the situation. "We stand ready to provide any and all needed assistance," Sullivan said, adding that President Joe Biden"has directed USAID and other federal government partners to assess U.S. response options to help those most affected."Share to TwitterThe Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority said there are at least 76 dead in seven cities.
People are"trapped under the rubble," the Syrian Civil Defense said, adding that it"calls on residents to evacuate residential buildings, go to open places far from buildings, and inform our teams about those trapped under the rubble."The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Authority Management said the earthquake Monday morning was felt in nine cities, and the epicenter is KahramanmaraşThe Şanlıurfa governor's office said 12 people were dead and 18 buildings had collapsed.
