Democratic presidential candidate U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard is polling in the bottom tier of Democratic candidates.: The latest attack on Big Tech for abuse of its massive power comes from a surprise source: Democratic presidential hopeful Tulsi Gabbard, who alleges in athat Google “silenced” her political speech when it briefly suspended her campaign’s advertising account after the first Democratic primary debate last month.
Representative Gabbard of Hawaii claims that on June 28—two days after the first Democratic debate—Google suspended her campaign’s ad account, meaning that she was unable to place links to her campaign website at the top of the search results when people searched for her name or similar terms. The lawsuit claims that Google gave inconsistent and conflicting explanations for the suspension before the account was reinstated hours later.Jose Castaneda, a Google spokesman, said: “We have automated systems that flag unusual activity on all advertiser accounts—including large spending changes—in order to prevent fraud and protect our customers.
