Garrett Hedlund as Mitch in Tulsa King
Tulsa King season 3 has already abandoned a divisive plotline from season 2. The Taylor Sheridan-created mafia drama is back, as Tulsa King season 3 kicked off with its premiere episode this Sunday, following season 2’s plot twist ending.
Like with any fresh season, new characters have been introduced. Tulsa King season 3’s cast sees many of the show’s long-term characters returning, along with several new members. Robert Patrick and Samuel L. Jackson are likely the most notable new cast members, the latter of whom is primarily there to set up a spinoff series called NOLA King. Also joining the series is Bella Heathcote as Cleo, Mitch’s love interest. Cleo's Tulsa King Season 3 Role Abandons Mitch & Tina's Romance Story Tease Tulsa King season 3’s Cleo introduction seems to put any chances of a romance subplot between Mitch and Tina to rest. Season 2 began teasing this possibility, particularly during a scene where Mitch takes Tina to teach her how to fire a gun. It doesn’t get outright romantic, but there’s obvious chemistry in the scene, and the body language seemed to be hinting at a spark. However, Tulsa King season 2 saw Dwight send Tina back to New York, believing that Oklahoma was unsafe for her due to his growing conflict with Kansas City and Thresher. This quickly cut short any opportunity to set up a romance between the characters, and Tina wasn’t heard from again for the remainder of the season, only to reappear in New York in season 3. Mitch is still in Tulsa, and Cleo’s arrival has set up his season 3 story. She’s his ex, but there’s evidently a connection that’s going to crush any chance at a long-distance relationship with the boss’s daughter, which would have been a strange idea to begin with. Mitch Dating Tina Would Have Been Too Messy For Tulsa King Romance plotlines have been one of Tulsa King’s biggest struggles so far, especially with Andrea Savage’s character leaving the show just a few episodes into season 2. Her character was initially introduced as a romantic interest for Dwight, but Tulsa King never fully played into the idea of a cop and a criminal in an ongoing romantic engagement. Despite being commonplace in most mafia media, Tulsa King hasn't placed much emphasis on its romance stories. Dwight's romance with Margaret is the main subplot, and having Mitch and Tina start a relationship could have added unnecessary complexity that would detract from the more prevalent crime-related narrative. 267 9.5/10 8/10 Tulsa King 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Like Follow Followed TV-MA Crime Drama Release Date November 13, 2022 Network Paramount+ Showrunner Dave Erickson, Terence Winter Directors Allen Coulter, Benjamin Semanoff, David Semel, Guy Ferland, Joshua Marston, Kevin Dowling, Lodge Kerrigan, Jim McKay Writers Joseph Riccobene, David Flebotte, William Schmidt, Taylor Elmore, Tom Sierchio, Regina Corrado, Stephen Scaia, Terence Winter 10 Images Close Cast See All
