Caleb Ransaw , a Tulane safety, participated in the American team's practice for the Reese's Senior Bowl on January 29, 2025, at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile. Ransaw's journey in football has been marked by encounters with the formidable Hoover High School team. As an up-and-coming freshman, his Sparkman Senators suffered a 49-7 loss to Hoover in the 2017 AHSAA Class 7A playoffs.
Two years later, when his brother, Gavin Ransaw, was an All-State defensive lineman, Sparkman again fell to Hoover, this time by a score of 21-3 in the first round of the 2019 AHSAA Class 7A playoffs. Caleb Ransaw's senior season ended with another first-round loss to Hoover, a 49-14 defeat in the 2020 AHSAA Class 7A playoffs. Determined to overcome this obstacle, Ransaw played three seasons with the Trojans before concluding his college career at Tulane in 2024. He returned to his home state for Mobile's annual all-star game. Gavin Ransaw also embarked on a new chapter in 2024, playing as a defensive lineman at Coastal Carolina. While Gavin stands at 6-foot-3 and 295 pounds, Caleb is listed at 5-foot-10 7/8 and 196 pounds. Caleb's smaller stature, however, is compensated by his exceptional speed, a crucial attribute for a defensive back. Listed as a safety on the American roster for the Senior Bowl, Ransaw has primarily played cornerback – both outside and in the slot – during his college career. He is not fazed by the safety designation, emphasizing his versatility to NFL scouts attending practice.Ransaw's versatility is also acknowledged by Jon Sumrall, who coached him at both Troy and Tulane. Sumrall praised Ransaw's adaptability, stating that he can play any defensive-back position effectively. He highlighted Ransaw's ability to play both in the box and on the perimeter, defending against both run plays and pass receivers. Sumrall further emphasized Ransaw's intelligence and love for the game. Ransaw himself expressed his confidence in his coaching staff and their high standards. Following his first day of Senior Bowl practice, Ransaw acknowledged areas for improvement as he transitions to more work at safety. He remains optimistic about his progress and determined to refine his skills. Ransaw also attributes his success to the unwavering support of his family, particularly his brothers and father
