Audrey Jimenez is a wrestler from Sunnyside and is making history on the mat. She also has hopes to represent Team USA at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
PHOENIX — Tucson’s Audrey Jimenez made Arizona sports history and national headlines earlier this year becoming the first girl to win an AIA state championship in the boys’ wrestling competition. The recent Sunnyside High School graduate and Lehigh University commit has been the number one pound-for-pound wrestler in the country and now she’s an alternate for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Wrestling team.
LW: Tell me about the community of Sunnyside because I saw that they had a watch party for your world competition, that's pretty awesome! AJ: I do want to get as many world championships and Olympics as I can. As long as my body's healthy I’ll continue to wrestle even outside of college. I would say I've always been athletic. I started playing soccer when I was four years old and even when I played softball up until I was 11, I had a goal to be an Olympic champion. Jennie Finch was my idol. Now in wrestling, I have the same goal: to win the Olympics.
