THE RATE of unemployment for BAME workers is almost double that of their white counterparts according to new data published by the body representing trade unions.The TUC analysis, using Office for National Statistics data, reveals shocking racial disparities in unemployment.
Black and minority ethnic women experience unemployment rates of around 8.1%, while unemployment among white women stands at 2.8%. While the new data is alarming, it sits against a wider backdrop of a decade’s long trend of high Black unemployment rates, which has devastated Caribbean communities in particular.
