Outside the Texas Center for Infectious Disease in San Antonio this year, when the Texas Biomedical Research Institute was named one of the first new national tuberculosis research centers after the COVID-19 pandemic stalled progress on preventing and treating TB.The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District has identified a case of tuberculosis that might have exposed people to the disease at three high schools in the Northside Independent School District.
The principals at the three campuses have sent letters to all parents letting them know of the issue. He also reassured parents that the infection is treatable and not easily spread, and that “casual and limited contact with a person with an active TB is not enough for someone to pass it on to others.”
