Tshwane speaker Mncedi Ndzwanana says he has every right to chair Wednesday’s planned council meeting set to debate a motion of no confidence against him.

Ndzwanana was responding to the DA’s urgent court application that seeks to interdict him from chairing Wednesday’s planned special meeting to hear the motion.

“I am the duly appointed speaker of the council and I am statutorily obliged in terms of Section 36 and 37 of the Structures Act to chair the meetings. “In the absence of an acting speaker, it would be unlawful for an order to be granted which interdicts me from participating in the meetings, which includes my rights to adjourn the meeting,” Ndzwanana argued.

ActionSA, DA, IFP, ACDP and FF+ want the high court in Pretoria to ensure Ndzwanana does not unlawfully prohibit, chair, adjourn or interfere with the motion of no confidence against him.
