WASHINGTON: The Trump administration will not invoke federal authority over the National Guard for now, National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien said on Sunday as protests flared in multiple US cities following the death of an unarmed black man in Minneapolis in police custody last week.
The National Guard said in a statement on Sunday said 5,000 of its soldiers and airmen had been activated in 15 states and Washington, DC, but that “state and local law enforcement agencies remain responsible for security”.Subscribe to our newsletter and get news delivered to your mailbox.
