Opinion | Rep. Wesley Hunt: Trump will be Republican 2024 nominee, so why debate? WashTimesOpEd

According to a recent Washington Post-ABC News poll, Mr. Biden’s approval rating has dropped to an all-time low of 36%. The same poll found that just 32% of the country believes Mr. Biden has the mental strength to continue serving as president. Most Democratic voters have also said they do not want Mr. Biden to seek a second term.

Whether it’s among general election voters, independents, or support within their respective parties, the dichotomy between Mr. Biden and former President Donald Trump could not be clearer. One declared candidate for 2024 is collapsing in the polls. The other is surging and has been since January. The candidate that is surging is Mr. Trump, and he’s going to be the GOP nominee for president.

Mr. Trump has earned the support of our party, which raises the question: If the DNC won’t force Mr. Biden to defend his record in primary debates, then why is our side entertaining primary debates in a noncompetitive field?
