Jeremiah Poff is an education and culture reporter for the Washington Examiner. A Virginia native, he previously worked for the Cardinal Newman Society, the Department of Education, and the College Fix. He graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville in 2019 with a degree in journalism and a minor in human life studies.

Former president Donald Trump unveiled a new proposal Wednesday to offer free college degrees through an online"American Academy" that will be funded by hefty taxes levied on the endowments of large private universities, such as Harvard.

In one of his trademark campaign policy videos, the former president, who is likely headed to a rematch against President Joe Biden in the 2024 general election, said that United States higher education has churned out left-wing political radicals, many of whom have excused recent terrorist attacks against Israel by Hamas.

The"dramatically different" proposal is the"American Academy," which the former president said would offer"a truly world-class education" that would not add to the federal debt. "Whether you want lectures or nation's histories, or an introduction to financial accounting, or training in a skilled trade, the goal will be to deliver it and get it done properly," he said."This will be a truly top-tier education option for the people. It will be strictly nonpolitical, and there will be no wokeness or jihadism allowed. None of that's going to be allowed.

"This will be a revolution in higher education and will provide life-changing opportunities for tens of millions of our citizens," he said."Enjoy it, learn from it, and thank you."
