Former President Donald Trump will visit California to survey the damage caused by recent wildfires, according to Governor Gavin Newsom. He is expected to arrive on Friday, but details of the visit are still being finalized.

President Donald Trump is anticipated to visit Los Angeles and regions impacted by the recent wildfires on Friday. Specifics regarding the trip remain unclear. Shortly after the wildfires erupted on January 7th, Governor Gavin Newsom and other local officials extended an invitation to Trump to visit the affected areas. Newsom disclosed to FOX 11 on Thursday that he hadn't received any updates from the White House concerning the impending trip.

He also revealed that he hadn't engaged in conversation with President Trump in years, since Trump's departure from office in 2021. 'I'm grateful, though, that he took our invitation to heart, and that he will be here tomorrow. That's my understanding,' stated Newsom. 'I look forward to being there on the tarmac to thank the President, welcome him. And we're making sure that all the resources he needs for a successful briefing are provided to him.' Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, however, asserted that she has been in communication with the White House regarding a potential Trump visit. Newsom recently signed a bill allocating $2.5 billion in aid for wildfire recovery efforts. The state anticipates receiving federal assistance to cover these expenses. Prior to leaving office, President Joe Biden communicated that the federal government would bear 100% of the disaster response costs. Nevertheless, Trump and other Republicans on Capitol Hill have indicated their intention to impose conditions on any funds allocated to California. On Wednesday night, during an appearance on Sean Hannity's show, President Trump remarked, 'I don't think we should give California anything until they let water flow into their system,' alluding to unsubstantiated claims that California's diversion of water to the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta contributed to water scarcity issues at the outset of the fires. Trump further expressed uncertainty regarding a potential meeting with Newsom during the trip, stating, 'I haven't even thought about it.
