President-elect Donald Trump is set to be sworn in for his second term on January 20, 2025, with one hand on a bible. A new edition of the God Bless the USA Bible, endorsed by Trump, has been released ahead of the inauguration. Trump has not yet chosen which bible he will use for the swearing-in ceremony.
President-elect Donald Trump is scheduled to be sworn in for his second term on January 20, 2025, taking the oath of office with one hand on a bible. The choice of inauguration bible holds significant historical weight and personal meaning for presidents. The first bible used at a presidential inauguration in the United States was on April 30, 1789, when George Washington borrowed one from a local Masonic Lodge.
The makers of the God Bless the USA Bible, endorsed by President-elect Trump, have released a new edition in anticipation of his second inauguration. Trump has yet to finalize his choice of bible for the January 20th swearing-in ceremony, according to a press release promoting the new bible. During his first inauguration, Trump utilized two bibles: his personal bible and the one used by Abraham Lincoln in 1861. Trump's mother gifted him his personal bible in 1955, two days before his ninth birthday, following his completion of the Sunday Church Primary School at the First Presbyterian Church in Queens. Barack Obama is the only other president to have used the Lincoln bible for an inauguration. Publishers of the Trump-backed God Bless the USA Bible have issued a limited-edition 'Inauguration Day Bible' ahead of Trump's inauguration. This special bible retails for $69.99 and includes the King James translation alongside the text of the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the lyrics to the chorus of 'God Bless the USA,' a popular 1984 hit song by Lee Greenwood. It also features a DVD of a concert honoring Greenwood. Trump fans can still purchase the regular God Bless the USA Bible for $59.99. Another edition, 'The Day God Intervened' edition commemorating the date of the failed assassination attempt against Trump in July, is also available. A Trump-signed bible is for sale on the website for $1,000. These bibles were initially announced in 2021 by a marketing company with connections to Greenwood and, according to The Salt Lake Tribune, have been a subject of controversy ever since. The bibles gained renewed attention this past spring when Trump started endorsing God Bless the USA bibles in video advertisements. 'Christianity has been experiencing a recent surge, and now more than ever, every home needs to have Bibles readily available,' one ad stated, urging Trump supporters to buy the new edition before January 19
