The presumptive GOP presidential nominee was invited by Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY), the third-ranking GOP senator.
“I believe it will be helpful to hear directly from President Trump about his plans for the summer and to also share our ideas for a strategic governing agenda in 2025,” Barrasso wrote in an email to GOP colleagues.
The meeting, which will occur at an undisclosed location not at the Capitol, was reported Monday by NBC News. Barrasso is chairman of the Senate Republican Conference and is backed by Trump in his bid to be Senate Republican whip next Congress. Meanwhile, Trump is considering several Republican senators to be his vice presidential running mate, including Sens. Marco Rubio , J.D. Vance , and Tim Scott .
It was not immediately clear whether Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell would attend the meeting. He’s endorsed Trump despite a fraught relationship between the two men since the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. His attendance would mark the first time being in the same room as Trump since before the riot.
The visit will come one day after Speaker Mike Johnson attends a Wednesday lunch with Senate Republicans, according to a source familiar with the matter. He is also expected to huddle over the party’s 2025 agenda.
