The AP noted that Japanese companies employ almost 1 million Americans and have held the top spot for foreign direct investment into the U.S. over the last five years. Ishiba, who took office in October 2024, will be the second world leader to visit the White House during Trump's new term. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier this week was the first to be hosted by Trump.Thursday evening, Ishiba arrived for his 24-hour visit to Washington, D.C., and he's expected to spend over two hours with Trump before returning to Tokyo. 'It will be our first face-to-face talks, so I would like to focus on building a personal relationship of trust between the two of us,' Ishiba told reporters before heading to Washington for his White House visit, per the AP
