Donald Trump will deliver an Oval Office address tonight on the coronavirus pandemic
President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he would deliver an Oval Office address in primetime on the coronavirus pandemic, announcing the rare setting as cases of the virus exploded across the country and financial markets continued to tumble.
Trump teased the address during a meeting with Wall Street executives at the White House, telling reporters that his administration had been discussing “various forms” of economic stimulus to counteract the effects of the outbreak. He would not go into more detail about what to expect from the address, which is scheduled for 9 p.m. Eastern.The White House later announced that it was canceling a daily press briefing by its coronavirus task force, which has been led by Vice President Mike Pence.
Wednesday’s remarks will be only the second time Trump has addressed the nation from the Oval Office, a setting typically reserved for special circumstances.
