"I call it kidnapped, because it basically is," DeMario told aHis fiancée immigrated legally to the US from Cuba 25 years ago through the State Department's Visa Lottery program. But in 2008, after cops found three Xanax pills in her bag at a traffic stop, she lost her legal residency and received aDeMario said he didn't think much of the deportation order at the time, and Alcantu went for annual immigration check-ins to try to regain legal status. These routine appointments with ICE had never been a problem until last June, when Alcantu was detained."They grabbed her and put her in shackles and chains," DeMario said of the incident.Both DeMario and his fiancée were staunch supporters of President Trump, which he believes makes her situation especially undeserved."She does not deserve this," he says through tears, seemingly directing his words at the president."She was the sweetest person, and she prayed for you."Anticipating the obvious pushback, the interviewer asks,"When you say you didn't vote for this, what did you think you had voted for?""I really thought this was just going to be something organized, but it's obviously not," DeMario responds."They just blanket everybody."As is typically the case when Trump supporters reckon with the consequences of their vote, the internet showed no mercy.to express frustration with the reaction."I voted Republican, but so did millions of other people," he wrote."What was the alternative?" "I’m sorry I voted for that a-hole. If people can’t accept my apology, fuck them. And it’s not about my life anyway, it’s about hers. Don't take it out on her. I’m not happy. The narrative should’ve been more about what they’re doing to , not trying to make me look like a MAGA Trump supporter. I don't own a hat, I don’t own a shirt, I don’t own those ugly shoes."He ends the post on a poetic note, saying,"It’s not about right or left. It’s about right and wrong."
