“Your actions on January 6th were shocking and egregious,” Judge Trevor McFadden told the Trump administration appointee before handing down his sentence.In this Jan. 6, 2021, file photo, U.S. Capitol Police push back rioters trying to enter the U.S. Capitol in Washington.His defense attorney Stanley Woodward said a significantly lower sentence was warranted, arguing that longer sentences were not convincing to Jan. 6 defendants.

Woodward argued prosecutors were going after his client too aggressively because of his status as a former political appointee. Judge McFadden’s sentence was ultimately well below the 10 years the government sought.
