Senators are continuing to debate whether to grant President-elect Donald Trump the ability to bypass the chamber's approval for his nominees.

Former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama each made dozens of recess appointments during their terms but none of them used it for high-level Cabinet posts. The practice was also curtailed in 2014 when the Supreme Court ruled that the Senate needs to be in recess or adjourned for 10 days before recess appointments can be made.
“If the House and Senate went along with this now, it would be unprecedented at the beginning of a new Congress for the president's party, which has majorities in the House and Senate, to willingly give up their right to review nominees because the president demanded it,” said Matthew Green, a political science professor at Catholic University.
Former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., was nominated to be Trump’s attorney general this week faces a rocky path forward with his confirmation with a history of inflammatory remarks and actions as a lawmaker and ato lead the Department of Health and Human Services, who is also facing a difficult path to confirmation with bipartisan concerns about his skepticism of vaccines and other beliefs like advocating raw milk and removing fluoride from drinking water.
“Any Republican Senator seeking the coveted LEADERSHIP position in the United States Senate must agree to Recess Appointments , without which we will not be able to get people confirmed in a timely manner,” Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social, saying that positions should be filled “IMMEDIATELY!”and said that he was open to recess appointments to help get nominees into office quickly.
