President Donald Trump said Wednesday there's a "really good chance" of a China trade deal, a day before talks between U.S. and Chinese officials are to start again in Washington.
Speaking at the White House at an executive order-signing ceremony, Trump tempered his comments a bit by saying the deal needs to be the "right" one for Americans. U.S. stocks SPX, +0.91% closed higher as investors hoped for an easing of trade tensions. Reports ahead of the resumption of talks indicated China was open to a limited tariff resolution with the U.S. and that Beijing had offered to boost purchases of U.S. farm products.
