President Donald Trump revealed in an exclusive interview with The Post aboard Air Force One Friday that he has been speaking with Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone in an attempt to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine. Trump expressed his desire for a swift resolution, stating, 'I hope it’s fast. Every day people are dying. This war is so bad in Ukraine. I want to end this damn thing.
' He emphasized the tragic loss of life, particularly among young soldiers, saying, 'All those dead people. Young, young, beautiful people. They’re like your kids, two million of them – and for no reason.' Trump believes Putin is aware of the devastating consequences of the conflict, stating that 'Putin does care' about the deaths on the battlefield. Trump shared his plan to facilitate meetings between the parties involved, stating, 'Let’s get these meetings going. They want to meet. Every day people are dying. Young handsome soldiers are being killed. Young men, like my sons. On both sides. All over the battlefield.' While he didn't disclose the exact frequency of their conversations, he indicated a desire for continued dialogue. The former president also mentioned his proposed $500 million deal with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which would involve securing rare-earth minerals and gas in Ukraine in exchange for security guarantees in any potential peace agreement. Turning to Iran, Trump expressed a preference for a non-nuclear deal, stating, 'I would like a deal done with Iran on non-nuclear. I would prefer that to bombing the hell out of it. . . . They don’t want to die. Nobody wants to die.’ However, he remained tight-lipped about the specifics of any potential negotiations, stating, 'In a way, I don’t like telling you what I’m going to tell them. You know, it’s not nice.' He expressed optimism that Iran would reconsider its current course of action, stating, 'I could tell what I have to tell them, and I hope they decide that they’re not going to do what they’re currently thinking of doing. And I think they’ll really be happy.' When pressed about his potential offer to Iran, Trump declined to elaborate, saying, 'I can’t say that because it’s too nasty. I won’t bomb them.
