As you can probably imagine, people were pretty upset about the posts, which Blankenstein admitted to but did not apologize for, saying only that they had no relevance whatsoever to his work ensuring that consumer-protection laws like the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, and civil-rights legislation meant to protect African Americans and other minority groups from discriminatory practices, were enforced.
