Thomas Homan, former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), defended the agency's practice of apprehending undocumented immigrants in schools and churches. Homan argued that ICE officers should be allowed to exercise discretion in making arrests, even in sensitive locations, and that current restrictions hinder their ability to enforce immigration laws effectively.

“If you’re in the country illegally, you’re on the table,” Homan said. “It’s not okay to defy the laws of this country.”Raddatz then pressed Homan on a directive this month by then-acting U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Benjamine Huffman allowing federal agents to arrest illegal immigrants at churches and schools.
ICE officers, he argued, should be allowed to use their discretion to make arrests if an individual is inside a school or church. The agency always evaluates arrests “on a case-by-case basis," Homan said.
