President Trump shocked the world by declaring the United States' intention to take over the Gaza Strip and 'own it,' proposing a radical plan for the relocation of all 2 million Palestinians currently residing there to other Middle Eastern countries. Trump envisions Gaza becoming 'the Riviera of the Middle East,' a vision met with skepticism and international condemnation.
President Donald Trump declared that the United States would assume control of the Gaza Strip, stating, 'We'll take over the Gaza Strip, and we'll own it.' Trump proposed that all 2 million Palestinians currently residing in Gaza should relocate to other nations in the Middle East, specifically Jordan and Egypt, while the U.S. undertakes the development of the territory.
'Gaza is a hellhole,' Trump asserted during a joint press conference at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He envisioned Gaza transforming into 'the Riviera of the Middle East' where 'the world's people' could establish homes. Trump suggested a 'long-term ownership position' when questioned about the prospect of permanent U.S. occupation of Gaza. 'This could be so magnificent,' he stated, arguing that his plan could potentially usher in 'great peace' to the wider region. Netanyahu, responding to the U.S. taking over Gaza, remarked, 'I think it's something that could change history.' Neither he nor Trump elucidated how the U.S. would legally acquire the authority to assume control and administer Gaza during its redevelopment. This statement follows Trump's previous proposals for the U.S. to acquire or take over Greenland from Denmark, for Canada to become the 51st U.S. state, and for the U.S. to regain control of the Panama Canal. 'We'll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site, level the site, and get rid of the destroyed buildings, level it out, create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area,' Trump explained.Meanwhile, Trump's senior advisor, Jared Kushner, concurrently suggested that Israel should relocate Gaza civilians to the Negev desert in southern Israel.Trump's declaration coincides with the commencement of talks between American, Israeli, and Arab negotiators regarding a second phase of a ceasefire plan for Gaza. This ceasefire, which has shown promise in halting the devastating 15-month war, has already resulted in the release of several Israeli hostages and the re-establishment of Hamas' political control over Gaza. Palestinian civilians displaced during the past year of conflict have also begun to return. Earlier on Tuesday, Trump expressed his belief that the occupied territory's inhabitants, estimated at around 2.2 million before the war began, should not return to their homes. 'This is a very difficult situation. I don't think people should be going back to Gaza,' Trump stated at the White House earlier that day. 'They're living like hell. They have no alternative.' Trump asserted that he was actively engaging with neighboring countries to accept hundreds of thousands more refugees from the territory. 'The king in Jordan and the general in Egypt will open their hearts and give us the kind of land we need,' Trump stated Tuesday evening. 'We're going to give people a chance to live in a beautiful community that's safe and secure. And I think you're going to see tremendous, a tremendous outflowing of support,' Trump added. 'I can tell you, I spoke to other leaders of countries in the Middle East, and they love the idea. They say it would really bring stability, and what we need is stability.
