Judge Aileen Cannon has set September 8 as the start date for the trial of Ryan Bouth, accused of plotting to kill former President Donald Trump.

Judge Aileen Cannon released her revised calendar for Routh's trial on Tuesday, setting September 8 as the date for the trial to begin. Her new schedule also gives defense attorneys until February 3 to declare whether they will seek an insanity defense. Approximately a dozen other dates were also set on Tuesday, many of them relating to dates for disclosures between both sides and to settle any pretrial motions.

Cannon’s schedule comes nearly two weeks after Routh’s attorneys urged her to reschedule the trial and not set a date earlier than December 2025. In her ruling, Cannon found the current February 10 start date did need to be pushed back because of the amount of discovery in the case; however, she described the defense’s suggested timeframe as “excessive given the facts and circumstances.” Routh was accused of lying in wait for 12 hours on the perimeter of Trump International Golf Club on September 15 before a U.S. Secret Service agent spotted a rifle poking through the fence. Routh was accused of fleeing from the scene before he was to charges of attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate, possessing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, assaulting a federal officer (a Secret Service Agent), felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number
