"James' civil investigation is focused on whether the Trump Organization and its leaders knowingly misvalued assets for financial gain, through inflating them to secure loans and undervaluing to save on taxes. Trump has shown little willingness to cooperate with the investigation since it began in 2019, sparked by his former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, who told Congress Trump and his business associates had routinely misvalued assets.
