Trump's tweets lashing out at congressional Democrats came moments before the House Judiciary Committee gathered to vote on authorizing subpoenas to 12 witnesses in the Mueller investigation
President Donald Trump on Thursday laid into congressional Democrats over their investigations into his administration and 2016 campaign, asking, “How many bites at the apple do they get” before dropping their probes and moving on to issues like immigration reform?
The tweets, which came as part of a larger spree of almost two dozen tweets over the course of the morning, came moments before the House Judiciary Committee gathered to vote on authorizing subpoenas to 12 witnesses in the Mueller investigation.“Now the Democrats have asked to see 12 more people who have already spent hours with Robert Mueller, and spent a fortune on lawyers in so doing. How many bites at the apple do they get before working on Border Loopholes and Asylum,” he wrote.
The White House has stonewalled requests for information from Democrats, oftentimes invoking executive privilege to block testimony. But a number of those facing subpoenas Thursday have not worked in the White House, potentially stripping Trump of the ability to employ such a tactic. Now the Democrats have asked to see 12 more people who have already spent hours with Robert Mueller, and spent a fortune on lawyers in so doing. How many bites at the apple do they get before working on Border Loopholes and Asylum.
“He said he was ‘done’ after his last 9 minute speech, and that he had nothing more to say outside of the No Collusion, No Obstruction, Report,” Trump claimed, though Mueller did not make a determination on whether Trump obstructed justice and did not use “collusion” as a standard for his investigation into Russian election interference.
