Donald Trump is seemingly leaving the door open for revenge on his political opponents.

Republican presidential candidate, former President Donald Trump speaks at a campaign rally, Thursday, June 6, 2024, in Phoenix. “Revenge is a very strong word, but maybe we have revenge through success," the former President replied, before leaving the door open.

“Revenge can take time, I will say that, and sometimes revenge can be justified, I have to be honest, sometimes it can," Trump told the television host. The “lock her up” chants to prosecute Hillary Clinton became a big part of his 2016 Presidential campaign, but Trump didn’t pursue charges. Now, some Republicans from Trump’s inner circle have been urging revenge in the wake of Donald Trump’s guilty verdict and other pending criminal cases.

“Is every House committee controlled by Republicans using its subpoena power right now? Is every Republican D.A. starting every investigation they need to right now?" asked former Trump advisor Stephen Miller in an interview with FOX News.“I will appoint a real special prosecutor to go after the most corrupt President in the history of the United States of America Joe Biden, and the entire Biden crime family," Trump said in June of 2023.

“I’m mostly concerned about our country and our democracy, right? I mean, when comments like that are made by a former president and a candidate for president, uh you know, it, it's, it's hard to actually imagine that any president would talk about revenge," said Rep. Josh Gottheimer, D-New Jersey, following Trump's appearance on Dr. Phil.
