The 119th Congress begins its first session Friday, and Republicans will hold control of both the House and Senate. Speaker Johnson's future grew uncertain in recent weeks after he received heavy GOP criticism for his handling of a temporary funding measure to avoid a government shutdown. Trump earlier this month condemned an initial bipartisan spending plan backed by Speaker Johnson, urging Congress to approve a plan 'without Democrat giveaways.' However, he told Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hard working, religious man,' Trump wrote. 'He will do the right thing, and we will continue to WIN. Mike has my Complete & Total Endorsement .' The president-elect added that Americans need 'immediate relief' from the 'destructive policies' of the Biden administration, suggesting Speaker Johnson can help accomplish that. 'We are the Party of COMMON SENSE, a primary reason that we WON, in a landslide, the magnificent and historic Presidential Election of 2024 ,' Trump said.'Together, we will quickly deliver on your America First agenda and usher in the new golden age of America,' the speaker wrote to Trump.
