Trumpworld consultant Alex Bruesewitz announced he would not run for the seat of retiring Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI).
Bruesewitz, a Palm Beach-area adviser in the former president’s orbit, had teased a campaign in his home state ofBut he opted to endorse oil and gas businessman Tony Wied instead on Sunday, ending months of speculation about his entry into the race. His announcement came minutes before Trumpin a statement. “If I truly believed I was the best candidate for this moment and truly believed the time was right, I would be running.
“But right now I believe that getting President Trump back in the White House is what I need to remained focused on, and that will be my mission until November,” he added.to Wisconsin to test the waters for a bid, meeting with local county chairmen and possible donors in the state.
Gallagher, who is stepping down from Congress at the end of next week, leaving the seat vacant until next year, himself ran afoul of Trumpworld for declining to vote for the impeachment of President Joe Biden’s border chief, Alejandro Mayorkas. Gallagher’s relationship with Trump soured over the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
Had Bruesewitz entered the race, he would have had the backing of House Republicans aligned with the former president. Reps. Jim Banks and Matt Gaetz , among others, had offered him preemptive endorsements.Bruesewitz, who uses his large social media following to act as an attack dog for the former president, has family ties to the 8th Congressional District and grew up in nearby Ripon, Wisconsin, but moved to West Palm Beach to be close to Mar-a-Lago in 2019.
