In the weeks leading up to the rally, Trump faced fierce criticism from some of his former staffers. Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Trump, called Trump “fascist to the core,” veteran journalistbetween Trump’s event and the notorious Nazi rally held at Madison Square Garden by the German-American Bund in 1939, on the eve of World War II. While the rally was underway, the Democratic National CommitteeSome of the speakers addressed the comparison head-on.
“Mayor Adams has been treated pretty badly,” Trump said. “I think they upgraded his seat in an airplane. That’s a very serious charge. I don’t know, maybe it was something else. But I have to tell you he’s been really great.”
