President Trump sat down with FOX News' Bret Baier to discuss his second term, his controversial appointment of Elon Musk to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, and his decision to attend the Super Bowl in person.
President Trump sat down for an interview with FOX News Channel's Bret Baier at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, reflecting on his second term in office. His time in the White House was marked by significant federal government disruptions and ambitious promises of American expansionism. One of Trump's most notable actions during this period was appointing billionaire Elon Musk to lead a new entity called the Department of Government Efficiency, tasked with slashing federal spending.
'I've had great help from Elon Musk, who's been terrific,' Trump stated during the pre-recorded interview, which aired on Super Bowl Sunday as Trump traveled to New Orleans to become the first sitting US president to attend the game in person. Musk, a tech mogul turned special government employee, has enjoyed near-unrestricted access to federal government departments and sensitive information, including Social Security and bank account details. However, this appointment has drawn significant criticism. A federal judge recently ruled against Musk's actions, prompting Trump to express strong disapproval. 'I disagree with it 100%, ' Trump said of the ruling. 'I think it's crazy. And we have to solve the efficiency problem.' Trump expressed confidence in Musk's abilities, stating, 'Trust Elon? Oh, he's not gaining anything. In fact, I wonder how he can devote the time to it. He's so into it.' With Trump's backing, Musk and his DOGE unit have aggressively cut funding for the U.S. Agency for International Development, pledging to eventually 'shut it down.' Trump outlined his administration's efforts to combat perceived waste and fraud within the government. 'We're going to find billions, hundreds of billions of dollars of fraud and abuse,' the President declared. 'And, you know, the people elected me on that.' Trump's interview with FOX News aired before the Super Bowl kickoff at the Superdome in New Orleans. During his term, Trump emphasized his vision for American space exploration, promising in his inauguration speech to 'pursue our Manifest Destiny into the stars' and send astronauts to Mars. He also expressed a desire to acquire Greenland and, in his interview, doubled down on his previous suggestion that Canada should join the U.S., claiming it would be 'much better off' as the 51st state.Trump's interview also touched on his recent trade disputes. He threatened hefty tariffs on Mexico and Canada but subsequently delayed them for 30 days after both nations pledged to send 10,000 troops to safeguard the US border. Trump insisted these actions were insufficient to prevent future tariffs. While aboard Air Force One en route to New Orleans, Trump told reporters he would impose a 25% tariff on aluminum and steel imports on Monday. He also indicated plans to retaliate against other nations with reciprocal tariffs, stating, 'If they charge us, we charge them. That's all. Every country will be reciprocal.'Trump's Super Bowl attendance came after the NFL's decision to replace 'End Racism' slogans in the end zones with 'Choose Love.' Trump commented on the importance of national unity, saying, 'We have to come together. But to come together, there's only one thing that's going to do it, and that's massive success. Success will bring the country together, but it's hard.
