President Trump told an audience of conservatives that he would win reelection in 2020 by a bigger margin than his 2016 victory.

President Trump hugs the American flag at the 46th annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Maryland on March 2.

Noting that"you put the wrong people in a couple of positions," Trump added:"And they leave people for a long time that shouldn't be there and all of a sudden they are trying to take you out with [expletive], OK?" Trump said. Trump mentioned his call during the 2016 campaign for Russia to hack into Clinton's emails, although he suggested that he was being sarcastic at the time and criticized the news media for coverage of those remarks.

Trump also dismissed one prominent argument from Republicans regarding his recent decision to declare a national emergency to redirect federal funds for his border wall. GOP lawmakers have argued that the president’s move may set a precedent for future Democratic presidents, but Trump said the answer to that was for him to be reelected.

Trump also announced that he would sign a new executive order to make federal research funding for colleges and universities contingent on their support of"free speech." The move appeared to be a response to complaints by some university critics that institutions of higher education stifle right-wing viewpoints.
