President Trump boldly asserted that the Biden administration weaponized the Justice Department in an attempt to silence Charlie Kirk and Turning Point USA. The commander-in-chief accused “deranged” Special Council Jack Smith — who oversaw two prosecutions against Trump before he resigned in January — and the “corrupt and incompetent Biden administration” of trying to force the conservative non-profit organization “out of business.

Smith’s cases did not go to trial before Trump won re-election in November 2024 and were later dropped. While Turning Point USA was one of the conservative groups subpoenaed, the exact basis of the inquiry is unclear.Turning Point USA, co-founded by Kirk in 2012, has been flooded with more than 37,000 new chapter requests in the wake of the father of two’s assassination.
