Thousands have fled California since at least four separate wildfires broke out Tuesday in the Los Angeles area. Officials reported Wednesday more than 1,000 structures have been destroyed and at least two people have died as a result of the blazes. On Truth Social, Trump slammed Gov.
Newsom's refusal to sign a 'water restoration declaration' which would have allowed 'millions of gallons of water ... to flow daily into parts of California.' He claimed the effort would have benefited areas currently being impacted by the 'virtually apocalyptic' fires. ' I wanted to protect an essentially worthless fish called a smelt, by giving it less water (it didn't work), but didn't care about the people of California,' Trump wrote. 'Now the ultimate price is being paid.' Trump during his first presidency ordered farmers in California's Central Valley be granted greater access to water. The Republican's order targeted restrictions reducing the pumping of water in the area in hopes of protecting smelt, salmon and other fish. The state of California in early 2020 sued the Trump administration to block the order, claiming it could lead to the extinction of multiple fish species. Trump in his Wednesday post said once his second presidency begins, he will demand Gov. Newsom allow 'beautiful, clean, fresh water' to flow into California. He is the blame for this,' the president-elect said of the governor. 'On top of it all, no water for fire hydrants, not firefighting planes. A true disaster!' Gov.
