Trump complained that modern planes are becoming too complicated for pilots, as countries around the world ground the Boeing 737 Max 8 after a deadly crash in Ethiopia

President Donald Trump on Tuesday complained that modern planes are becoming too complicated for pilots, as countries around the world ground the Boeing 737 Max 8 after a deadly crash in Ethiopia.

"Airplanes are becoming far too complex to fly. Pilots are no longer needed, but rather computer scientists from MIT. I see it all the time in many products. Always seeking to go one unnecessary step further, when often old and simpler is far better," Trump wrote on Twitter. He continued: "Split second decisions are....needed, and the complexity creates danger. All of this for great cost yet very little gain. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want Albert Einstein to be my pilot.

The tweet comes shortly after the governments of China, the United Kingdom, Australia, Indonesia and other countries grounded 737 Max 8's in their airspace in response to the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines flight last weekend. Another 737 Max 8 crashed in Indonesia in October, raising concerns about the plane's safety. The 737 family is one of Boeing's most popular planes with a strong safety record, but the Max 8 has raisedSeveral U.S. carriers have maintained the plane is safe and continue to use it on hundreds of flights a day without incident. But that hasn't stopped lawmakers including Sens. Richard Blumenthal , Dianne Feinstein and Mitt Romney from calling for a grounding.

Southwest says it remains 'confident' in its fleet of Boeing planes after Ethiopia crashSouthwest says it remains 'confident' in its fleet of Boeing planes after Ethiopia crashSouthwest Airlines Co. expressed confidence in its Boeing Co. aircraft and said has no plans to change operations in the wake of a deadly crash involving a 737 Max 8 aircraft in Ethiopia. But shares of the airline fell over 3% in premarket trading, alongside a nearly 9% drop in Boeing shares. "As Southwest operates a fleet of 34 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, we have been in contact with Boeing and will continue to stay close to the investigation as it progresses," said a spokesman for the company. Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crashed shortly after takeoff from the capitol of Addis Ababa, killing all 157 people on board. It's the second deadly accident involving Boeing's popular 737 Max 8 in six months, with the last occurring in October when an Indonesia Lion Air jet crashed into the sea, killing all 189 on board. China's civilian aviation authority has ordered all airlines to ground those Max 8 planes, while Ethiopian Airlines has grounded its entire fleet of those planes. "We don't have any changes planned to our operational policies or procedures," said the Southwest spokesman. Losses for Boeing drove a 170-point drop in Dow futures.
