Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ) agents expanded their operations into Los Angeles on Saturday, conducting pre-dawn raids as part of a West Coast initiative anticipated to run seven days a week, according to sources who spoke with The Post. The targeted efforts seemed to avoid areas of the city most severely affected by the destructive wildfires currently raging through Southern California, the sources noted. This operation aligns with the broader crackdown on immigration in major U.
S. cities that President Trump promised during his campaign. The focus has been on removing criminal migrants from the country, sources added. U.S. ICE agents and other federal agencies involved in these raids are expected to accumulate significant overtime to accelerate the deportation process. While details regarding the Los Angeles raids remained scarce on Saturday afternoon, sources indicated that apprehended migrants were being held in ICE detention facilities across California pending deportation. Officials anticipate these facilities will fill rapidly, prompting the federal government to seek additional space for migrant detainees. ICE agents were also observed in West New York, New Jersey, where they apprehended an unidentified Hispanic male without questioning, placing him in a van. Executive orders issued by President Trump have significantly relaxed restrictions on how immigration officers can conduct deportation raids. These orders have removed bans on searching courthouses, churches, and other “sensitive” locations where undocumented migrants have traditionally sought refuge from federal authorities. The White House plans to utilize military aircraft daily to support what Trump and “border czar” Tom Homan have pledged will be the largest deportation operation in U.S. history, according to ABC News. On Friday, ICE reported the arrest of 593 individuals in the U.S. illegally and filed 449 “detainer” requests with local authorities, urging them to hand over migrants targeted for deportation. The number of arrests made on Saturday remained unclear as of 4 p.m., but the agency released new names of individuals apprehended days earlier. These include Jose Jose Roberto Rodriguez-Urbina, an alleged MS-13 gang member apprehended by the New York field office and wanted in El Salvador on extortion charges; and Adam Pablo-Ramirez, a Mexican national with two drunk-driving convictions who was apprehended in Chicago.Federal immigration agents have been arresting hundreds of other migrant criminals daily since President Trump took office on Monday. Other arrests include numerous pedophiles, drug traffickers, and gang members, as well as a suspected terrorist in New York. Meanwhile, Chicago Public Schools acknowledged an error on Friday when they initially claimed that ICE agents entered Hamline Elementary School on the city’s Southwest Side. The agents who entered the school were actually with the U.S. Secret Service and were investigating a threat against one of their “protectees” in relation to the recent TikTok ban, according to NBC News.
