The Trump administration is urging the NCAA and high school sports associations to reallocate past awards and records, citing its new transgender sports policy.

The Trump administration is pushing for past sports titles and records to be reassigned following its executive order restricting transgender athletes from women’s sports. The Department of Education confirmed Tuesday that it has sent letters to the NCAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations requesting changes to their record books.

"The Trump Education Department will do everything in our power to right this wrong and champion the hard-earned accomplishments of past, current, and future female collegiate athletes," Candice Jackson, deputy general counsel at the department, said in a statement. The request could impact past champions, including Lia Thomas, the transgender swimmer who won the 500-yard freestyle NCAA title in 2022.
